Dear Parents and Carers
What we have been doing at pre-school this week The children have enjoyed telling us about the Halloween parties and the light parties to celebrate Diwali that they have been going to during the half term break. To follow on the children’s interests we have been providing activities and resources to support learning about colours of autumn and learning about other cultures through Diwali.
It has been lovely seeing the children dressed up for Halloween this week. We have shared stories with the children such as Meg and Mog and Room on the Broom. The children have also carved pumpkins this week and learnt about how they grow and the seeds inside. We also used the pumpkins to make soup for the children to taste. Many children had not tried pumpkin before and said it tasted like banana and cupcakes.
Also during this week we have been exploring Diwali (the Hindu festival of light). The children have really enjoyed making cards, exploring light and shadows and making lanterns. We have also shared the story of Diwali book with the children.
Photos will shortly be added to our face book page of the fun and learning that the children have been involved in this week.
Around this time of year there is lots of fun to be had watching fireworks and attending bonfire night events. Along with the fun to be had there is also the safety concerns that come along with this. We have been talking with the children about being safe around fireworks and bonfires without taking the fun away. The children have been talking about the firework displays they will be attending this weekend. We wish you a safe and fun filled weekend and look forward to hearing all about it next week.
Concept Photography A little reminder that Concept Photography will be in pre-school on Tuesday 8th November, should you wish your child to have their photo taken and they do not attend on a Tuesday morning please speak to Claire or Lucy to arrange an appointment time, thank you.
World Nursery Rhyme Week – week commencing Monday 7th November 2016 Singing is an important part of our day at pre-school, the children really enjoy singing and moving to music. This is a fantastic way for children to socialise, move, act and most importantly have fun whilst learning through play. During this week we will be celebrating World Nursery Rhyme Week by learning new nursery rhymes and singing our favourites. We will also be providing activities for the children to make up their own rhymes through using puppets. Could we please ask that you provide a long sock for your child to make a sock puppet with us during the week, thank you.
