Newsletter 31st March 2017

Friday 31st March 2017

It was great celebrating Mother’s Day last week with the Mum’s at pre-school.  We are planning to invite the Dad’s into pre-school around Father’s Day in June to spend time with your children and to make and create at pre-school.  Many Mum’s came into pre-school and had a lovely time making arts and crafts.  The children really enjoyed showing their Mums what they do at pre-school.  If any Mums were unable to attend during the week you are more than welcome to come in any time as are the Dads.

Courtney Ladybirds Pre-School Family Night   As you may know our Pre-School Committee is made up of parents and carers who give up their time to raise funds for resources and improvements to the pre-school.  They do a great job and are currently planning for the Courtney Ladybirds Pre-School Family Night.  This will be at KES Social Club (Regent Street, Kingswood) at 7.00pm on 17th June 2017.  Tickets are on sale now and can be brought from Claire (manager) in the office.  Tickets are £2.00 each or £6.00 for a family of 4.  There will be sweet cones, disco, raffle and bingo throughout the evening.  We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the event as this will be a great time for all of us to get together before the summer holidays and before some of the children move onto primary school in September.

Concept photography are coming into pre-school on Thursday 6th April during the morning session.  If your child attends on a Thursday morning they will have their photo taken throughout the session.  However if your child does not attend on a Thursday morning and you wish your child to have their photo taken and if siblings will be joining them to have their photo taken please speak to Claire or Lucy who can arrange an appointment time with you.  Thank you.

Autism Awareness week commencing 27th March This week we have been exploring sensory play and looking at what makes everyone different.  This is to coincide with World Autism Awareness Week.  Further information regarding this can be found at  www.autism.org.uk/

We have been talking to the children about how we are different from our friends.  The children have each drawn on a jigsaw piece about themselves and we will be putting these pieces together. This shows how we are all different, like the jigsaw pieces, but we all come together to make a happy, fun place to learn at Courtney Ladybirds Pre-School.  Every child is special to us and without them the Courtney Ladybirds Pre-School jigsaw could not be complete. The completed jigsaw will be made into a display at the beginning of next term.

The children have really enjoyed using their senses to explore different textures and resources such as lentils, oats and coloured rice.  Thank you to Auntie Stacey for taking time at home to colour all the rice and oats and for coming up with these lovely ideas for the children to explore and investigate. We will continue to provide exploration and sensory activities as the children have really enjoyed this and have spent a long time at these activities

We are also using Makaton sign language with the children to support all the children’s communication, speech and language.  We will be exploring why people talk and communicate differently.  All people communicate in different ways; some people like to use their hands to gesture or their face to make lots of expressions while they talk.  Some people talk quietly and some talk loudly. We have some visual cards that one of the parent’s kindly brought in for us to use which we are incorporating into our daily practice.  Thank you to the parent that brought these in for us it’s such a great resource for us to use.  We will continue to explore and use Makaton with the children and are looking to incorporate this into our singing sessions.  More information regarding Makaton can be found at https://www.makaton.org/

Car Seats Safety Advice  The law for car seats for children has changed, further information can be found at https://www.gov.uk/child-car-seats-the-rules/using-a-child-car-seat-or-booster-seat  alternatively information regarding this can be found on our notice board in the lobby area.

Donations please Do any parents have any computer keyboards that they no longer need or want?  We are looking to extend our role play resources.  Therefore if you have any computer keyboards that are no longer working or you wish to get rid of then we will happily use them at pre-school, thank you.
