Dear Parents and Carers

We have enhanced the children’s outdoor play experiences this term.  We have purchased a new storage trolley to enable the children to have more selection of resources whilst in the garden.  By using tyres, which were kindly donated by a parent, we have made a small world play area where children can use their imagination during their play.  The children have also been exploring light and colour this term.  We have used the light-box with various resources to see the effects of light on different colours.  We have also been making crowns to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.  The children have decorated their crowns with glitter and shiny paper.  To extend the children’s role play opportunities, and to follow the children’s interests, we have purchased a builder’s toolbox and a doctor’s medical bag.

Can you help?  We are looking to further enhance the children’s opportunities and learning experiences and would ask for your help with donating any old CDs and yoghurt pots.  With these we will be making decorations with the CD’s to hang in the garden and yoghurt pots to start our planting this term.  Thank you for any items that you are able to bring in.

Queen’s Birthday Celebrations – Tea party  We will be holding a tea party on Saturday 14th May 2016 at the pre-school to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.   We hope as many of you as possible will be able to come along.  Further details will be issued shortly.  To coincide with the tea party we will be having lots of fun and games throughout the week (from Monday 9th to Friday 13th May).  During this week we will be making decorations for the tea party such as bunting, flags, crowns and making cakes.  We will also be looking at the colours red, white and blue throughout the week.  Therefore your children are invited to wear red, white or blue coloured clothes throughout the week.

Summary of your child’s progress and observations by email  Your child’s observations have been issued during the last week by email.  If you have not yet received the observations through your email please speak to Claire or your child’s key person.  We hope you enjoy looking at these, it is always lovely to let you know how your child is progressing at pre-school and we feel this is a really good way of sharing this with you.  We value your comments, therefore if you wish to comment please reply to the email that has been issued to you regarding your child’s observations.  A summary of your child’s progress will be sent home over the next week.

Photographs  If your child has recently had their photograph taken at pre-school the proofs have now been returned to us from Concept Photography.  Therefore please collect the proofs from us and return them with your order, if you wish to purchase any photos, by Thursday 5th May.  Thank you.

Fundraising – thank you   We have been overwhelmed with the kindness and fundraising efforts of the children, parents and families of the pre-school.  Many of you have already returned the fundraising forms and monies to us along with the items that your child has collected.  We are really grateful for all your donations and your continued support of the pre-school.  We will let you know shortly how much was raised and the resources we will be purchasing.  The natural resources that were collected for the fundraising activity will be used this term to make art and to extend the children’s learning through natural resources.

Visit from the Vets  On Thursday 12th May, during the morning session, we will be having a visit from Longwell Green Vets.  They will be talking about how to look after pets and they may even bring in some small animals for the children to look at.  To support the week’s learning we will be adding to our wall display and ask for a photo of your pets so we may talk with your children to extend and support communication skills.

Safety around the pre-school before and after pre-school hours  We would like to respectfully remind parents and carers to ensure their children do not wander off around the pre-school grounds before and after pre-school hours.  This is to ensure the safety of the children which is our main concern.  Thank you for your continued co-operation in this.
